Why Take Your Pet To A Vet Clinic That Does Veterinary Internships

Veterinary internships are special training given to students who are about to graduate or who have recently graduated from veterinary school. When you go to a vet clinic that has an open veterinary internships opportunity, odds are your pet will be seen by a veterinary intern at some point.

There can be many benefits to going to a vet clinic that offers veterinary internships when you need to take your pet in for a checkup or for a medical need. Here are reasons why you should take your pet to a vet clinic that does veterinary internships.

You get assistance from someone who is eager to learn and freshly trained

When you take your pet to a vet intern, you get a fresh face who is eager to learn about new situations and have happy and healthy clients. You allow a vet intern an opportunity to use the skills they have honed over the years and give them a new perspective on common pet ailments or even practice with a traditional checkup.

If you have reservations about having a vet intern treat your pet, don't. Veterinary internships require a new vet intern to be supervised by an experienced vet. Even if the vet intern is the main person you see when you take your pet in for its appointment, rest assured that the vet intern is speaking to the main vet about your pet's visit, and if the main vet is needed during an exam or treatment, they will come into the room.

You get to support someone new to the veterinary field

A veterinarian may ask if you are alright with a veterinary intern seeing your pet when you first arrive at the clinic, or they may introduce you to their vet intern during your appointment. Unless your pet has a unique situation in which a skilled vet is necessary for the visit, it's a good idea to allow a vet intern to treat your pet because you are supporting someone new to the veterinary field and allowing them to grow in their own skills.

You can even opt to just have a vet intern observe in the room while your main vet examines your pet. This is another way you can support veterinary internships at a vet clinic.

Ask your veterinarian's front desk receptionist if the clinic does veterinary internships if you're unsure. This way, you can prepare for your appointment appropriately.
